Croatian state honor to Ivan Dikic
28 January 2010: The Croatian President Mr. Stipe Mesic (l.) awards Prof. Dr. Ivan Dikic with the Order of Duke Branimir with Ribbon for his contribution to the international reputation and status of the Republic of Croatia in the field of science and education. Achilleas Frangakis wins ERC-Starting Grant
November 2009: CEF Investigator Achilleas Frangakis receives a
"Starting Independent Researcher Grant"  from the European Research Council (ERC).  Sole criterium for the selection of successful applications was scientific excellence. The cryo EM expert plans to use the 1.7 Mio Euro grant money to employ further promising young scientists and thus expand his interdisciplinary research group of biologists, physicists and biochemists. PACEM Cryo Electron Microscope installed in Frankfurt.  Scientists of the CEF together with the company Carl Zeiss have developed a prototype of a new electron microscope, which provides higher contrast with biological samples. Max Planck Institute of Biophysics Director Werner Kühlbrandt and his team presented the new microscope to the press on 20. Oktober 2009 (Links: HR TV News Item, FR Press report).

 

CEF Investigator Amparo Acker-Palmer wins the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter Prize for Young Researchers for her research into ephrins and Eph receptors and their significance in the plasticity of the brain and the development of blood vessels.  This prize is one of the most highly regarded German awards in the field of medical research and comes with 60,000 Euro price money.
