Harald Schwalbe receives award for "Best Doctoral Supervision"

July 2015. The GRADE Award for Best Doctoral Supervision, awarded this year for the first time by the central graduate academy of Goethe University Frankfurt, recognizes outstanding performance as PhD supervisor. CEF's Harald Schwalbe and his colleague Kira Kosnick are the first supervisors honoured with this prize.

The prize is awarded annually and aims to encourage dedicated doctoral supervisors in their work, to make their commitment visible and to recognize them for their achievement. Criteria for the selection include supervisory performance, the support of doctoral students with respect to research, support in questions of career planning as well as a particular commitment to promoting junior researchers. PhD students were invited to nominate supervisors and the nominations were evaluated by the scientific advisory committee of the graduate academy. The award was donated by Andreas Kärcher, chairman of the Vereinigung der akademischen Verbände. The award money of 5000 € must be used to support PhD students. The award was presented on 17 July 2015 during the GRADE celebration welcoming new doctoral candidates and saying farewell to those who have completed their PhD projects.
