Achilleas Frangakis wins ERC-Starting Grant


November 2009 - CEF Investigator Achilleas Frangakis receives a "Starting Independent Researcher Grant"  from the European Research Council (ERC).  Sole criterium for the selection of successful applications was scientific excellence. The cryo-electron tomography expert plans to use the 1.7 Millionen Euro grant money to employ further promising young scientists and thus expand his interdisciplinary research group of biologists, physicists and biochemists. The goal of his research is to reveal novel macromolecular interactions, up to the level of whole cells, by means of cryo-electron tomography and advanced pattern recognition algorithms.
