Alexander Gottschalk publishes paper on optogenetic analysis of synaptic function in Nature Methods

New method for time-resolved and quantitative assessment of synaptic function: A team of scientists headed by Adjunct Investigator Alexander Gottschalk developed a new method called optogenetic investigation of neurotransmission (OptIoN) for time-resolved and quantitative assessment of synaptic function via behavioral and electrophysiological analyses. This method involves photo-triggering release of acetylcholine or γ-aminobutyric acid at Caenorhabditis elegans neuromuscular junctions using targeted expression of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Channelrhodopsin-2. This work was recently published in Nature Methods.
