TEDxCaltech lecture by Erin Schuman available online
"The Remarkable Neuron"
Erin Schuman, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research, participated in the TEDx Caltech conference "The Brain" hosted by the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California on 18 January 2013. Using the fast-paced and intensive format of TED talks, the speakers are asked to push themselves "way outside their comfort zones to share their newest, unique, and most visionary ideas."
Erin Schuman presented her work on protein synthesis at the synapses. Her presentation with the title "The Remarkable Neuron" was recently put online and can be found on YouTube or on the website of TEDxCaltech.

TEDx ( i.e. x=independently organized TED event) is a local, self-organized event that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At the TEDxCaltech event, TEDTalks video and live speakers were combined to spark discussion and connection in a small group. The TEDxCaltech event aimed to be a forward-looking celebration of humankind's quest to understand the brain, by exploring the past, present and future of neuroscience.
TED itself is a nonprofit organisation "devoted to ideas worth spreading". TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design but its scope has become ever broader since it started out in 1984. It has grown to support world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
